Case Study One:
Sarah (not her real name) has learning difficulties, she moved to Parallel Options and for her safety, was originally staffed 24 hours a day. Since moving into Parallel Options', she has started a part-time job in a local shop and is being paid wages into her own bank account. Her support package was reviewed to reflect her increase in independence skills which have been promoted and obtained by dedicated support staff assisting her with personal safety, budgeting skills and practical living skills. Sarah has proven to everyone, and herself that she can work and live safely within the community.
Case Study Two:
Amanda (not her real name) moved into a flat after leaving care at the age of 18 years old. She had minimal support which consisted of support with housing related tasks which included support with obtaining benefits, help to maintain the safety and security of her flat and occasional welfare support. After 8 months she became independent enough so that the support services were discharged from Parallel Options and she carried on maintaining the tenancy of her flat with occasional support from Social Services.
Case Study Three:
William's (not his real name)childhood consisted of living in various foster care and residential care placements. When he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia he became homeless for a while and his general mental health state deteriorated through drug abuse, resulting in frequent periods spent in psychiatric hospitals. William then moved into Parallel Options. After three years in Parallel Options, William has maintained his tenancy agreement, has engaged with staff who support him and has built himself a safe and secure place that he can call his ‘home'.
